On our trip to Italy this year we decided to stop for a few nights in Polignano a Mare, a small coastal town about an hour south on the train from Bari. The town is nestled along Italy's southern Adriatic coast and is known for its pebble beaches and Roman bridge.
Our first impression of the town was, that it seemed to be, a tourist hotspot for Italians wanting to come to the seaside. The town is quite small but we found a lovely Air BnB in a prime location that was not too far from a multitude of bars and lovely places to eat.
For the few days before we got here, I had had trouble finding anything to eat in Italy that was gluten and dairy-free - however in Polignano we did not have that problem. This small town is not short of delicious places to grab a bite to eat!
MINT is one of our favourite places that we ate - run by a husband and wife team they have catered for every dietary requirement in this small quirky restaurant. I had cauliflower rice and an avocado chocolate moose to follow - delicious!
I would recommend booking in advance as it can get full fast!
Polignano a Mare gave me the best gluten and dairy-free sandwich of my life - and here it is! Pescaria does AMAZING seafood sandwiches with dairy-free mozzarella and gluten-free bread; the seafood is freshly caught and theses were so lovely we went back a second time. The restaurant has also made an obvious effort to cut down on their plastic waste with all packaging now biodegradable!
This was another lovely restaurant... oh wait no this was in our Air BnB! With lots of deliciousness and goodies bought from the local shops!
The best dairy-free ice cream you can eat can be found in Joya Canti di stagione which regretfully took us a couple of days to find! This is pistachio honey and rosewater ...Turkish Delight ice cream is now my new favourite!
Another lovely place to eat (and drink) is a little bar called Cactus which was located quite close to the restaurant MINT. Lots of fresh veggie options available - all tasty!
Lastly, we visited this lovely little Italian seafood restaurant called Ristorante primi & vini where we ate Tuna stake and pasta to our hearts content.
Solid 9/10, the staff were delightful and the food was fresh!
