6 Ways To Build A Feminine Wardrobe

After the last few years of greedily consuming all the femininity content I can find on the internet, I thought I would share the tips I have picked up on how to build a feminine wardrobe. What we wear is important and I have always enjoyed the expressiveness of fashion. Since starting my sustainable fashion journey 5 years ago now, I have moved my wardrobe in a different direction focusing more on quality pieces and classics that I know will never go out of style.

With my interest in femininity and feminine energy over the past couple of years however, I found it hard to incorporate feminine clothing into my new wardrobe effectively. Although I have tried to thrift more, make more thoughtful purchases and buy classic pieces I still feel like I have made quite a few boo boos when it comes to feminine style.

Over the past few months however, I feel that I have finally found what works well in terms of adding femininity into my wardrobe and I wanted to share what I have found and learned along the way!

1. Feminine Colours

Colour can be a great way of injecting femininity into a wardrobe and enhancing your style! For me learning about colour theory was a game changer in improving my style and also building a more feminine wardrobe.

Figuring out your colours can help direct you in terms of which colours are best to use to enhance your femininity and what will work best with your skin tone. I for example have an suit autumn colours best which means many of the colours traditionally associated with being more feminine look awful on me. Any pastels and very bright hues all make my skin look cold and sickly - so typically 'feminine' or 'girly' clothes just don't suit me.

I have worked around this by finding a couple of 'feminine' colours that I can incorporate into my wardrobe in hues that work with my skin. The main colours I have been focusing on are the dusky and soft pinks which if they are the correct hue work well for me. Focusing on one shade range that really suits me has helped steer me away from purchases that will not suit me at all.

2. Feminine Shape and Texture

Whatever your body shape you can look feminine! But dressing in accordance with your shape is the best way I have found to enhance my style and again figure out what suits me. I think we have all seen graphics like the one below and after years of growing up on Trinny and Suzanna I know what looks good on me. As I am a slim hourglass I always want to show off or enhance the focus on my waist where I can, as this is one of my most feminine features. Wrap dresses and high waisted trousers look good on me and synching in the waits of an outfit is an easy way to enhance femininity unless you are apple shaped.

There are plenty of other feminine parts of the body however, collar bones, long legs a curvy bust! For me looking more feminine is learning of to enhance these areas and dress well for my shape... hiding the other bits I don't want people to see!

I have also seen a video (now deleted on choosing shape and texture of clothing based on how angular or round your face and body is - which also helps you know how it is best for YOU to incorporate femininity into your wardrobe.

Some one quite angular will want to stay away from clothes that are too exadurated with ruffles and feathers, or a lot of soft material next to their face and upper body in particular. However if you have a rounder face and body this can be an amazing way of enhancing your femininity! One to think about...

Shape of clothing can also be another way to bring more femininity into your wardrobe especially if like me, you struggle to wear lots of 'feminine' colours. Even black can look feminine if it is a milkmaid dress or a peplum top as these are feminine shapes. Shapes can be another way to bring femininity into your wardrobe that can be very affective; anything that enhances a feminine feature or something round or that drapes will typically add femininity into your wardrobe.

Texture can also be a way to bring femininity into your wardrobe as softer more natural fabrics generally give off feminine energy. Just think of feathers, fur, silk, cotton linen or cashmere .... they all make an outfit appear more feminine. Just think of a silk dress, even in black or green it is feminine and striking.

Even if you love black, choosing textures and shapes that are typically more feminine can build a stunning feminine wardrobe.

3. Feminine Basics

As I have mentioned in a previous post I have been trying to build more of a 'capsule' (ish) wardrobe over the past few years and focusing on basics. Even basics can be a great way to bring out more femininity in your wardrobe and I have done this with the addition of more white and beige and the reduction in black and navy blue. This has helped to subtly change my look and the items I go for and while I may not be the embodiment of cottage core my style has definably become more femininized.

Choosing basics that flatter your figure are well fitted and can be mixed and matched easily with other mor feminine pieces.

4. Feminine Tailoring

Another way to build a feminine wardrobe or improve the one you have is getting clothes tailored to fit your body shape. Especially if you are slim or an hourglass making sure your clothes fit your body and don't drown you will enhance your femininity no end! I love getting my clothes tailored it makes me feel so much more comfortable in my clothes; it can also be a good option if you thrift a lot of clothes, as often vintage styles and sizes are quite different from those we have today!

Feminine tailoring is tailoring that enhances the feminine form and celebrates and hugs your body!

5. Feminine Accents

Not all colours sit us and feminine clothing comes in so many beautiful designs and colours that it can be difficult to incorporate a lot of feminine pieces into your wardrobe. I certainly found this as after two years I felt I still didn't have the wardrobe I wanted that reflected my change in style. One of the issues I had is that I still had too many colours and colourful 'feminine' clothes that were difficult to wear with other items in my wardrobe.

That is when I decided to pick a couple of 'accent' colours to go with my more basic items in my wardrobe. I chose pink and blue to go with my neutrals and I am pretty happy with the

6. Details, Details, Details

A simple way of bringing more femininity into your wardrobe is to focus on details! A beautiful pearl strap, earrings or a headband are all ways of bringing more femininity into an outfit. even with a relatively plain outfit jewelry or a hair accessory can completely transform an outfit from something relatively plain or slightly masculine into something feminine and interesting.
