My Top 7 Benefits to Shopping Second-Hand

As it is second hand September, I thought it would be a great time to share some of my thoughts on the benefits of shopping second hand. I have always loved shopping for bargains and thrifting antiques in random shops; I like the uniqueness of it and of what you find.

  • Affording higher quality clothes
Not everyone can afford high quality or sustainable clothing and shopping second-hand can be a great way to get around that. Not only is it sustainable but you can often find designer or high quality brands for a fraction of the price - winning!
  • Saving money
Shopping second hand can help save money especially when it comes to buying secondhand home-wear. Items for the home and kitchen especially can be very costly and buying them second hand can save you a lot!
  • Supporting local communities and charities
Buying from Charities can actually be a great way to give back to the local community and support people and animals in need.
  • Not supporting the exploitation of people or the environment
Buying second-hand is the best way to be sustainable. All 'green' brands are still having an impact on the environment and buying secondhand is the best way of reducing waste and ensuring no environmental impact is made from your purchase.
  • More consideration over personal style
If you want to shop second-hand successfully finding your style and colors before you start is imperative! If you want to build the best wardrobe you can from second-hand items already knowing our personal style is a must!
  • Smaller personal carbon footprint
Many of us now think about our 'Carbon footprint' and are more conscious of the waste we produce and the things we buy. Shopping for second-hand home-wear, clothes or anything else IS the most sustainable and ethical choice.
  • Unique Clothing
Shopping secondhand is a brilliant way to stand out from the croud. Buying vintage or antique items means you will always look a little different and have different clothes to your average Jo!
