Sometimes the best way to have a more sustainable wardrobe is to care for the clothes you have. Good quality clothes should last decades if cared for well. I thought I would share some of the things I use to care for my clothes and prolong their life. These also help me live more sustainably and take care of, not only my clothes but the environment.
When people share 'Ethical' brands online, they are often very expensive. Reformation or Underprotection for example are very expensive - so caring for what I buy is very important.
Firstly I always wash my clothes on a cool wash to protect the fibers and use less energy. I also try to, when I remember use my guppy bag. These catch the microfibers as they are released from the clothes. Guppy Bags can also help protect more delicate items like underwired bras.
Another way I like to care for my clothes is using a de-bobbler to get the bobbles and loose strands off fabric. This helps prolong the life of my jumpers and helps them look their best. I got mine for £2.00 from Amazon.
Something else that I have bought recently and something I would like to do more of is fixing and altering clothes. I recently bought a travel sewing kit which is perfect to go in my handbag!
The last thing I would recommend and I swear by, is using a steamer. This is instead of an iron (who has the time to iron honestly) and is so easy to whip out and iorn the odd t-shirt or smooth out that summer dress. I have been in love with steamers since I worked in retail years and years ago and realized that is what they used in stores to keep the clothes all looking effortlessly pressed!
