Well we seem to be in for a wet winter! However, nothing should ever stop us from getting outdoors and connecting with nature. Here are my favorite beaches in Dorset that are perfect come rain or shine with a short explanation of why they are a must visit this season.
1. Lulworth Cove
Pictured above, there are stunning walks from this beach to Durdle door and along the Jurassic coast. There are also some nice country pubs to hide in if the weather gets too bad! I would recommend visiting in all weathers, but if it is nice and you get chance do make sure you walk along the the Jurassic coast further.
2. Old Harry Stacks
A lovely walk that can be a bit windy! You can walk over the top or along the beach but beware of getting cut off by the tide! Would recommend this walk if you have a few hours to kill and it is a sunny day as there are quite a few pubs nearby!
3. Arne Nature Reserve
Although this beach is tucked away it still gets quite busy! You walk through the stunning Arne nature reserve to get there which gives you lovely views over the worlds biggest natural harbor. If you like to bird watch then bring your binoculars as there is plenty to see!
5. West Bay
Probably in the top two beaches in Dorset for me, west bay looks amazing. The towering sandstone cliffs are beautiful in any weather - just don't stand to close! You can walk the length of the beach to 'The Hive' beach hut for fresh fish and a gin and tonic - perfect!
6. Portland
A strange and slightly foreboding place ... but a lovely place for a walk! I would recommend going on a slightly calmer day as it is very windy and a bit of a strange place to visit... well worth the views though and the striking geology!
