I'm going to be honest, I didn't really know where Dorset was-as a 'Northerner' I never really venture down South. I was born in Cheshire and lived all of my life in North Wales or Shropshire and never really thought I would move. It isn't that I never wanted to but I didn't know where else to go.
When my boyfriend said that his work was taking him down here and asked me to come with him I just thought why not. I wasn't expecting a global pandemic at the time and everyone said Dorset was lovely. I wanted to give it a go, so we packed everything up and moved down here.
My first impression of Dorset is that it is hotter and dryer than home. All of the soil seems to be sand and evergreen trees and gorse bushes are dotted all over the place making for a very different landscape.
Unfortunately a week after we got here the whole country went into lock-down. I found this really hard at the time, we couldn't get much for the house and all the job opportunities dried up leaving me stuck at home all day.
Thank God I have my blog - that's all I can say!
I'm sure everyone has found lock-down difficult, but I did find it hard. The whole thing made me feel depressed and quite alone. I was in a strange place, out of my routine and sitting on my own at home for most of the day.
Some good things have come out of this, but it is hard to be patient and keep your faith when everything stable in your life suddenly disappears.
This hasn't complacently destroyed my opinion of Dorset however, I have visited some stunning places so far and I love being by the beach. Our house is lovely and its nice to have my own space. I also love all the little thatched villages and secret corners of history.
I am looking forward to exploring more of the area this Summer and really being able to focus on creating some good content for my blog and some of my new channels like my YouTube Ticktock and my 21 Buttons. One other thing I have enjoyed down here is there seems to be more other bloggers, so I am hoping to make some new friends here too!
The places I am excited to visit the most are The Eden Project, France on the ferry, the Isle of White, Swanage beach and Brownsea Island to see the squirrels! Let me know if you have recently moved and have any recommendations or tips for starting over!
