48 hours in Budapest - Ethical Travelling

I am so in love with Budapest it is such an awesome city! We passed though it so quickly I am sure you could easily spend a week here going to spa's and wondering the streets. We went at Christmas time and if you do too, make sure you visit those Christmas Markets!

Otherwise, let me share with you what we did in Budapest in 48 hours... make sure you comment below if you are going!

Firstly, make sure you eat at the Karavan, a place for street venders and a little tipple. It is outdoors so very cold in winter but the food is still delicious! They do everything from Thai food to Burgers and traditional Hungarian dishes.

Take an umbrella with you if you are going in winter! We were lucky with the weather but it started to rain just as we left.

Another place you need to visit in Budapest is Matthias Church and Fisher-mans Bastion. One of the most popular spots in Budapest and even better it is free. You get the most beautiful views of the city there and a few good Instagram shots too. Be prepared for a lot of tourist though if you go in the middle of the day!

If the Budapest Castle and the Fisher-mans Bastion is quite far from where you are staying then make sure you download the Bolt App (Eastern Europe's version of Uber).

I would recorded choosing one of the beautiful Air BnB's that can be found all over Budapest. We chose this one for only £50.00 a night and it has everything you could need. I always love staying in Air BnB's as it allows me to travel more on a budget while still staying in my own space somewhere nice. It also keeps money in the local economy!

Another must see place is the central market hall. Packed full of stalls, it is free to go around and have a look and really get a sense of life and culture in Budapest.

All the food that we ate in Budapest was delicious, but it was difficult to find things that were gluten and dairy free. You wont be short of places to eat here and choices - but one places I would recommend to anyone is Meat Boutique. Don't let the name put you off!
Serving traditional food with modern twists, all the ingredients are lovely quality and the staff are very welcoming. The restaurant is right on the river and you can see the parliament building, beautiful at night!

Another place you must see if you get time is the very important Dohany Street Synagogue the biggest in Europe. They have a very interesting museum and holocaust memorial here that is important to visit. The museum and the shoes on the Danube tell the story of the Jews in Budapest.

Not to end on a sad note, the last place I would definitely visit is Szimpla Kert for a drink! You can really feel the character of Buda and it is very unique.
